Message from the PTA President
Dear Tierra Linda families and friends,
I would like to introduce myself as PTA president for this school year 2019-2020. My name is Amanda Alfred and I was born and raised in Camarillo. I have three children that range from first grade to seventh grade. This year will be my eighth year as a Tierra Linda Parent. I have four more years to go! I have been so impressed and thrilled the opportunities and education my children have been blessed with here at Tierra Linda. I was very pleased to see how well my oldest child was prepared for junior high school last fall.
I started off volunteering years ago, when my oldest child was in kindergarten trading off with another friend and made a goal to come to my first PTA meeting once my three children were in school. When my youngest was in TK I finally made it to a meeting that spring. I was amazed to find out that all the programs that my children loved were planned and executed by the PTA volunteers! The teachers, staff and PTA all work so well together at Tierra Linda to enhance our student’s educational journey.
Tierra Linda’s PTA program is unique and envied in our community. I am grateful for all the help and support we have.
What’s PTA? How does it affect my child?
PTA is a national program Parent Teacher Association. When you join the PTA dues support our school and our city’s, state and national PTA program.
At Tierra Linda we have three main fundraisers:
- Axxess Books in September - Last year was Tierra Linda's first year selling these discount books and we raised $11,000! The Axxess books offer several discounts for merchants within Ventura County and are valid September 2019 to December 2020.
- Dance-a-Thon. Asking for donations and sponsors for our Dance-a-Thon. This year our Dance-a-Thon will be on October 11. The theme is Rockin’ 25 and we will be celebrating the 25 years Tierra Linda has been educating students with some good old rock and roll!
- Spring Silent Auction in May
These fundraisers allow PTA to donate to each teacher for their classroom supplies, they also give a donation to each grade level an opportunity to purchase new items for enriching their students.
PTA provides for the assemblies on campus, field trips, supplies for makerspace, the new student lounge, Physical Education products, the music program, The PTA organizes Red Ribbon Week, the Art Reflections Program, Book Fair, Science Night, the Art program in the classroom, Teacher Appreciation, Woman in History, Camarillo Academic Olympics, super quiz, family fun nights and much more throughout the year.
My favorite PTA program is the art docent program. What is the art docent program? It’s ten pre planned and prepared art lessons where volunteers help the students January through June of the school year. While I have no artistic ability, I loved volunteering as an art docent. It is fun to watch students explore their creativity and develop their own masterpieces.
I am out of breath just thinking of all of it! We would love to have you involved in PTA! We will be looking for volunteers throughout the year. Please check the TL Express for updates and opportunities so you can be a part of all the positives in your child’s educational journey.
Thank you for your continued support! I look forward to getting to know you as we work together to make this school year the best at Tierra Linda!
